Your Future Cannot Arrive Until Your Nervous System Trusts It
What I discovered inside a week-long Dr. Joe Dispenza retreat and why doing the energetic work first may be the missing link between vision and reality
One of the greatest gifts of stepping into someone else’s work is discovering what becomes even clearer about your own.
That’s exactly what has been happening for me since my first week-long retreat with Dr. Joe Dispenza last month.
His teachings have challenged me, stretched me, and given me language for concepts I have intuitively taught for years. One of the central ideas throughout the retreat is that if you want to create a new personal reality, you must become a new personality.
You cannot continue thinking, feeling, behaving, and reacting as the person who created your current life while expecting a completely different future.
I wholeheartedly agree.
In fact, one of the most powerful ideas I’ve heard this week is this: Your personality creates your personal reality.
That changes the conversation immediately, because the goal is no longer simply to attract something different. The goal is to become someone different.
As I’ve sat with these teachings, another question has continued to emerge for me. It is a question born out of decades of working with trauma, nervous system regulation, emotional healing, spiritual transformation, and thousands of conversations with people who desperately wanted change but couldn’t seem to sustain it.
The question is this: What would allow your nervous system to trust that future enough to become it?
That feels like the deeper work, because many people know exactly who they want to become.
They’ve visualized it
Prayed about it
Journaled about it
Meditated on it
Created vision boards
Repeated affirmations
Yet something keeps pulling them back toward the familiar, not because they lack desire, but because the body still trusts the familiar more than the possible.
That’s why I’ve spent years telling my clients: Do the energetic work first. Then take inspired, aligned action.
This isn’t to say that action isn’t necessary. It absolutely is, but action that comes from fear creates different results than action that comes from coherence.
Action that comes from proving creates different results than action that comes from peace. Action that comes from survival creates different results than action that comes from trust.
The nervous system is always participating in the outcome. That’s why I don’t believe transformation is simply about changing your thoughts. It’s about changing the system that interprets reality.
A nervous system organized around protection will experience opportunity differently than a nervous system organized around possibility.
It will receive love differently, money differently, success differently, rest differently, visibility differently.
It will even receive freedom differently, because the body is constantly asking one question: “Am I safe?” long before it ever asks: “What do I want?”
That realization has deepened my own work in ways I didn’t expect.
Lately, I’ve been hearing repeated conversations about becoming the future self before the future arrives.
I love that.
And I’ve also found myself asking: What keeps someone from holding that identity once they glimpse it?
Again and again, I come back to the same answer - the body.
The body that still remembers survival
The body that learned to brace
The body that became loyal to hypervigilance
The body that equated uncertainty with danger
The body that doesn’t yet know freedom can be safe
Perhaps that is why healing matters so deeply. It’s not that we’re trying to erase the past, but we’re teaching the body it no longer has to organize itself around it.
That’s why I believe energetic work comes first, before strategy, before performance, before productivity, and before force.
Energy determines the quality of the action that follows.
When your heart is coherent, when your mind is clear, when your nervous system begins trusting the future instead of defending against the past, inspired action naturally emerges.
Not frantic action. Not proving. Not pushing.
Inspired. Aligned. Intentional.
I’ve often said that manifestation is less about attracting something new than becoming available for it. I would take that one step further.
Manifestation is becoming unavailable for the old version of yourself, unavailable for the fear, unavailable for the story, unavailable for the emotional addiction, unavailable for the identity that could only imagine life through the lens of survival.
That’s where the future begins, not after your circumstances change, while they’re still changing.
Practice becoming the person your future requires even when you don’t believe you have already arrived, but because your nervous system is finally beginning to believe that future is safe enough to live.
That’s what “doing the energetic work first” has been about all along.

I loved reading this article. This one gets restacked. Thanks so much for sharing. Your article perfectly answered a question I had this morning. That question is: how do I get my message out to people without being laughed at?
Bizarre, I understand completely without understanding at all. I was working from frantic, and I realize that won’t get me where I need my effing nervous system to go…. I’m settling but holy samolians. When y’all figure out how to get your nervous systems to believe they are safe, please clue me in. I totally hear the vibrational/frequency piece…thanks for the poke into my soul…
